Tim Greavette Memorial Crowns New Champion!
The Tim Greavette U-18 Rep tournament wrapped up on Sunday afternoon at the Gravenhurst arena after two 1/2 days of intense hockey. Six teams battled for the top spot, playing a three game round robin before moving into the final rounds on Sunday.
The second consolation final was a battle between the Thorold Blackhawks and the Mariposa Lightning. Thorold took the lead in the second period and didn't look back, clinching the win with a final score of 4 - 2.
For the first consolation game, our third seeded Bears were matched against the 4th place Minto Mad Dogs. The first period saw the teams evenly matched. This trend continued through the last two periods as each team scored 3 goals apiece, ending the third period in a tie and catapulting them into overtime. The battle continued into overtime and so did the tie, as one overtime period ended with no one team clinching the win. The second overtime began and despite the Mad Dogs fierce effort, the Bears ultimately got that much needed goal, clinching the win with only 4:18 left to go in the 5th overtime period to securing their third place title.
The final game saw the Stittsville Rams and the Huntsville Otters go head to head for the Championship trophy. The Rams got on the scoreboard just at the end of the first period to take the early lead. Despite the Otter's strong opposition, the Rams claimed two more in the second. Not one to give up, the Otters rallied back in the third, stealing a shutout from the Rams. However, the clock ran down with the Rams not giving the Otters any chance to come back. Stittsville secured the win and the Championship Title. Congratulations to the Stittsville Rams and to all the teams who came out this weekend; it was so great to feel the tournament vibes in our arena once again!
We would like to thank the Gravenhurst arena staff for their co-operation and help which allowed us to put on such a smoothly run tournament. In addition, we would like to thank the refs for navigating such hotly contested games. And of course, kudos to our host team, the U-18 Rep Bears, bench staff and to the parent volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and were such amazing hosts. These types of events would never happen if it wasn't for our Bear's families and teams pitching in and helping out. It was an amazing weekend all around.
