VSS and Declaration Information
As outlined in the OHF Screening Policy
All Coaching Staff, Trainers, Managers, Board Members, Association Staff and those who help on the ice are required under OMHA, OHF, and Hockey Canada rules, to be screened with a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (VSS).
2022/2023 Season
All NEW volunteers MUST have a valid VSS and must be received by Sept 1. 2022 (for Coaches), Oct 1st (for additional bench staff). Please visit the local Bracebridge OPP detachment with VSS.22.docx and proper ID or go online OPP.ca.
All RETURNING volunteers MUST have a valid DECLARATION received by Sept 1, 2022 (all volunteers). Please complete this declaration letter and give to Shannon Zedic (VP & Privacy Officer).
We will not accept a VSS from another business, profession or organization.

OBTAINING A NEW VSS:
COST: FREE
As a volunteer there is no cost to you, or SMMHA, to obtain your VSS but it is your responsibility to have it done and submitted to our VP/ Privacy Officer.
REQUIRED STEPS:
Online:
1. Printout and complete the VSS.22.docx
2. Go to www.opp.ca
3. click on "Police Records Check" button
4. complete application (ensure you are requesting a Vulnerable Sector Check)
5. Once application is completed, you will receive an email confirmation
6. VSS will be emailed to you once it is complete.
7. Bring in hard copy of this VSS to the Bracebridge Arena and place in the Bear's office mailbox.

In person:
1. Printout and complete the 2022_SMMHA_VSS.pdf
2. Take letter, ID & go to the OPP (Bracebridge OPP Detachment is located at 690 Cedar Lane front desk).

The Administrative Clerk will go through the process with you, check your ID and let you know approximately how long it will take until your VSS should be complete. They will contact you when it is ready and you will need to go to pick it up.
3. Pick up & submit to VP/Privacy Officer
Once you have your new VSS from the OPP please place it in a sealed envelope with "Attention: VP/ Privacy Officer" written on the front and place it into the SMMHA office mail slot in the office next to the trophy/display case at the Bracebridge Arena, or email [email protected] for arrangements.
PLEASE NOTE: that if your name and birth date are similar to someone who has a conviction, you may be asked to submit finger prints before they can provide the VSS. The Bracebridge OPP Detachment can do this on site.
