Covid-19 Return to hockey updates and AGM
COVID-19 UPDATES FOR SOUTH MUSKOKA MINOR HOCKEY
On
June 3, 2020, the SMMHA Board of Directors met for our second time virtually
(via Zoom Cloud Meetings) ensuring the continued business operations of the
South Muskoka Minor Hockey Association. Rest assured, the Association is in
good health. We hope that each of you are doing well and staying healthy and safe during these unprecedented times.
An important part of our business operations is our Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is normally held in May or early June. Given the COVID-19 Pandemic, the likelihood of holding our AGM at the usual time is not looking promising. Section 125 and 293 of the Ontario Corporations Act, requires the AGM to be held no later than 15 months after the previous AGM and allows us to hold meetings virtually. On March 30, 2020, the Ontario government issued a temporary emergency order, pursuant to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, to provide flexibility in calling and holding annual meetings (the “Emergency Order”). In this regard, the Emergency Order provides relief to all Ontario not-for-profit corporations by enabling them to host virtual meetings and to extend the timeframe by which their association must hold its AGM to 90 days after the Emergency Order is terminated by the Ontario government. With this in mind, during the June 3, 2020 SMMHA Board of Directors meeting, it was discussed and decided that because the AGM is the most important meeting of the membership, that it would be best for all members to hold the AGM virtually in July to continue proactively planning for the future season in a safe environment for all participants. Please continue to watch the SMMHA Web Site and Social Media feeds for announcements regarding our AGM. Until the AGM is held, the current and interim Board of Directors will remain in place and will continue to look after the South Muskoka Minor Hockey Association with the same passion they always have. A few updates last week: Hockey Canada issued a statement on the return to hockey and the framework moving forward.
The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) will be releasing a statement on Monday June 8th regarding the provinces response to Hockey Canada’s framework:
