Dear Bears Families,
As members of the South Muskoka Minor Hockey Association, it’s essential that we all remember and adhere to the SMMHA and Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) Code of Conduct, both on and off the ice. Our behavior as Bears reflects not only on our teams but on the entire hockey community.
Unfortunately, last weekend in Huntsville, there was an incident involving two parents who directed inappropriate comments and yelling at the referees through a crack in the glass. Quote from the observer " While standing beside our youngest referee, we were exposed to two SM dads in the far corner continually yelling and swearing at the referees working the game. After a stoppage for offside, one of the dads (bright green hat) squeezed his face against a crack in the glass as the referee retrieved the puck in front of him, yelling “at least you got one call right”.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable and goes against the spirit of respect and sportsmanship we expect from all involved in our program. Without our dedicated referees, our kids would not have the opportunity to play the game they love. Let’s work together to create a positive, supportive environment for our players, officials, and each other. We ask that all families demonstrate the values of respect, patience, and sportsmanship, remembering that we are here to support our children and the game.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to upholding the values of SMMHA and OMHA.
