Bears travelled to Midland this past weekend ready to play some tough ‘A’ level
hockey in the annual Silver Stick tournament.
Even before we hit the ice, the Bears knew they had a tough division which included the Barrie Colts, the eventual tournament winners and the Uxbridge Stars, previous tourney champs. Nonetheless the team was excited to face these challenging competitors head on!

Our first game was against Barrie. The kids all played very smart and tough hockey. We kept up with them in the first and second period with the score of 1-0 for Barrie after 2. In the third period Barrie came on tough and out played us to go on to win 6-0. Despite what it said on the scoreboard, all coaches agreed that the team played one of our best games of the year.
The Bears second game of the tournament was against Uxbridge. The Uxbridge Stars hit us hard and just kept coming, beating us 7-1. Again the boys played really tough hockey.
On Saturday we faced off against New Hamburg. The Bears came out flying with a very quick goal in the first 20 seconds of the game but New Hamburg tied it up half way through the first. The Bears got their second and third goals in the third to make it 3-1 with 6 min left. New Hamburg was pressuring hard late in the third when Ben came up with a spectacular save with the puck on the line to keep the score at 3-1. Despite a late goal by the other team with their goalie pulled the Bears were victorious with a well-deserved, hard fought win.
Way To Go Bears!!
