Congrats to all U-9 LL Teams for a successful MPS tournament weekend!
This past weekend was an exciting weekend for our U-9 LL teams as SMMHA hosted the U-9 LL MPS year end tournament.  For these young players, it was the first time that they got to experience a full-blown tournament.  Even more exciting was the fact that they just recently started to play on full ice.

The teams participating were the home teams of the Hall Construction Kings, the Subnet Systems Leafs, the Promotional Source Whalers and the Wes Finch and Sons Red Wings, along with teams from Parry Sound Optimist Club, the Almaguin Ice Devils, Huntsville Little Caesars and Huntsville Main Street Dental.  The 8 teams battled it out through a three game Round Robin on Saturday and Sunday morning.    The games were hard fought and it was exciting hockey to watch.  It was also great to see so many family, extended family members and friends come out and cheer on these teams!

After the Round Robin on Sunday, four teams squeaked through to the semi finals, where the first place Almaguin Ice Devils faced off against the 4th place Parry Sound Optimist Club.  And our own Hall Construction Kings, who placed second after the Round Robin, faced off against the third place team, Huntsville Little Caesars.

Once again after some tough battles, Almaguin and the South Muskoka Kings, advanced to the final round at 5:00 p.m.  The final game was a nailbiter.  The teams got down to the last couple of minutes and it was still scoreless....however Almaguin prevailed and scored two goals in the final minutes of the game to secure the top spot.

Congratulations to the Almaguin Ice Devils for taking the trophy home.  And also to the home team Kings, coached in the tournament by Brian Boken, for securing a second place finish.  Both teams deserve a big round of applause!

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend.    I want to say a very special "thanks"  to our fabulous refs for being patient and "teaching" our newest tournament players the ropes.  And thanks to all the parents who volunteered in their first tournament and did an incredible job.  Also, a shout out to the all of the coaches and as well to the team managers (Kaileigh Adie/Barb McNabb/Sarah Wheeler and Hillary Johnson), who pitched in with their great organizational skills.  And finally, thanks to Jeff Barnes, Kristy Bonitatibus, and Katie Peleikis, who were a great help in running the registration table and fielding questions.  And of course, thanks so much to our 4 LL sponsors; we couldn't do it without you.

It was a great weekend and I hope everyone is looking forward to participating next year in more tournaments!
