Almost Perfect Weekend!
The Progressive South Muskoka Midget's difficult (some might say inhumane) schedule continued this past weekend with 3 more games in 3 days! Thankfully, a much deserved break for the holidays is just around the corner.
Friday night we played Parry Sound at the Bobby Orr Arena. This is a great facility we always look forward to visiting. It was a close game and required a pulled goalie to tie things up in the final seconds. It was felt we could have and should have won this one but at least a single point was gained on the road on a Friday night!
Saturday afternoon we were at the Graeme Murray Arena in Gravenhurst once again facing the Parry Sound team. This game was a little better with the Bears jumping out to a decent 4-1 lead until the final minutes when the Bears let up and Parry Sound pulled close to make it 4-3. It was a win but certainly NOT the way to finish off an opponent.
The team also registered a big 'WIN' for their toy drive spearheaded by Vicky Awram. It was a great initiative benefitting some deserving children. Congrats to Vicky and the many generous contributors. Well done!
Finally, on a late and snowy Sunday night, the team travelled to Penetang. This game was no real contest with the Bears jumping out to a 5-0 lead and then coasting to a 6-3 win. Getting 5 of 6 possible points on the weekend was a great accomplishment, both for the players who lately are seeing as much ice-time as they will ever see in their careers and the coaches who have had to juggle and be creative to squeeze success from our thin line-up.
We have one more game before the much needed holiday break. Everyone is looking forward to our prospects in the New Year with a well rested and completely healthy Bears team.
This will be the last entry for 2016... 'Happy Holidays' everyone!
