Tough Weekend!
It wasn't the weekend we hoped for but much was learned and hopefully gained for future benefit.
Friday night the opponent was Midland. It was a hard fought game but Midland jumped out to a lead and didn't relinquish it even though the Bears closed the gap a few times. The game took a toll with an injury and a suspension. The injury is hopefully not serious and the suspension was surprising given that the offending player was actually trying to soften the impact of a play along the boards but unfortunately the Ref didn't see this. Regardless it is something that happens when the Ref has to make a split second judgement. The game ended 6-3 for Midland.
On Saturday the Highland Storm came to visit. This was a very even match. Again the Bears came from behind to tie the match at 1-1. Unfortunately, we couldn't capitalize on late game power-plays and due to an unfortunate bounce, the Storm took a close 2-1 win. Those watching likely saw a 'first' for anyone who follows minor hockey...all ten skaters on the ice were thrown into the penalty box at the same time! Eventually there were 13 players in the two penalty boxes! Midget hockey is always entertaining!
There have been no lop-sided games that the Bears have lost this year. We know the team is close to breaking through. Just a little more thoughtful individual and team play will go a long way to accomplishing this! Stay tuned!
