Weekend Exhibition Games
The Progressive Waste Solutions Midget Bears played 2 exhibition games this weekend with the Huntsville Otters.
In our first game on Friday night in Huntsville, it was a spirited affair as it usually is against the Otters. Our Bears completely dominated zone play and shots-on-net (29-9) but that early season rust was evident and the team just couldn't seem to finish. That awareness around the opposition net to find an open team-mate on odd-man rushes or pouncing on loose pucks was just not there. In the end, The Otters scored only one goal and the message was simple, you can't win any game unless you score.
In the second game Sunday night in Gravenhurst. Improvement was seen with a little more awareness around the Otters net resulting in two goals. Again, it was clear the Bears carried the play and dominated zone time but the Otters being the skilled team they are, capitalized on their chances and won the game 3-2.
Coach Yard commented after the game that it was a very good effort in both the Huntsville games. We mostly carried the play and if each individual worked on a few things and incorporated more team-play in their individual efforts, there is a great deal of up-side that we fully expect would put the right result on the score board as the season progresses.
Now the 'real' season begins.
