After the second evaluation the Coach/Coaches Evaluation team will
provide to the Director of Player Development a list of players being
asked to return for the 3rd skate and those not being selected for analysis and oversight.
The Director of Player Development will review the list provided from
the Coach/Coaches Evaluation team against the Board’s third party
independent reviewer(s) of the tryouts for continuity.
Following this review a list of player numbers being asked to return for the 3rd tryout
session will be posted on the team website. There may be special
instructions as to what to expect at the final tryout session as
provided by the coach.
The coach may request that they sign up to 3 of the players trying out at the end of the second tryout if:
- They are evaluating over 40 players with attending tryouts
- The selected players are the within the top 10 players, based on the coaches and independent board evaluator
- The player is not related to the coach
The coach may decide to either skate the players or not have them come to the 3rd tryout.
After the 3rd and final tryout the team will be selected.
The final selection process will proceed as follows due to the changes in open borders.
- The coach/coach evaluation team and SMMHA Board representative/third party evaluator (non-conflicted member) will discuss the players being selected.
The parent and/or player will be emailed (to the tryout card registered email address) by the coach and SMMHA board member/registrar to be offered a position on the team, or regretfully notified that they have not made the team. The coach may decide to call the parent/player aswell.
- Players may be AP’d to the team, but no AP positions will be offered until September once registration is complete.
- If the player is offered a position on the team, they may:
1) The parent/player may accept the offer, sign the commitment letter, and email to a registration page where they will need to sign waivers and pay the rep fees. If these are incomplete within 24 hours the position on the team will be revoked.
2) The parent/player may ask to think about the offer for up to 48 hours before accepting the position, in which case the Coach may grant permission, or rescind the offer to be on the team.
3) The parent/player may decline the position.
4) This process will continue until the coach has filled the team to the specified minimum number of positions as per the SMMHA MOP and the SMMHA Board permitted number of goalies.
5) The coach may also only offer up to 3 positions to Non Resident Players (NRP), ie players outside of the SMMHA catchment area.
a. Note that the SMMHA Board may permit additional NRP players if in their sole discretion, and in a special case situation.
6) In the event the coach can not sign enough players to form a team, the board may dissolve the team or seek alternative arrangements.
