There’s
a new pack of Bears in South Muskoka, and they’re getting good…and fast. On September 12th nearly a hundred
TimBits took the ice to start the season.
Fourty of those quickly moved to Tyke House League and the rest formed
our new Initiation Bear pack. We had big
Bears (some since graduated to Peewee
and Atom HL) and little Bears (some just four years old). We had Bears who couldn’t skate and some
who’d never worn their hockey gear. Just
two months later now though, the future stars of South Muskoka Bears hockey are
looking really good, and the future looks bright....
On Halloween Saturday the TimBits played their first monthly game. The four nets were expertly guarded by our Bantam Rep/AE and Midget Rep goalies (Maher, Huntbach, Webb and Guthrie) but they got filled anyway, with the goalies proving no match for the TimBits. And with good clean hockey, our two refs (Low and Vandersteltd) had little to do except continually pick pucks out of the nets and return to centre ice to face off after every goal - and there were lots. Many TimBits notched their first career markers that morning. There will surely be many, many more.
On November 7th the TimBits had a field trip to watch our Major Midget Bears play Collingwood. 26 of them stormed the Major’s dressing room before the game for a round of high fives and then cheered loudly from the stands. Many of them also brought their helmets so the Bantam Rep Bears could award them their first set of Bears helmet stickers.
Keep your eyes peeled for TimBits on the ice this season. This pack is working hard, having fun, and getting good fast. And if you want to see some great hockey, their next monthly game is scheduled for Saturday, November 28th at 9am in Gravenhurst – pity the goalies…
