Novice Rep, U9 (2012), 2012/2013 (South Muskoka Minor Hockey Association)

This is the opening tournament for the Bears and they are looking to face some opposition they have not yet faced before.   There are 10 teams registered in the tournament. A few of the teams are ones from our local loop and the others come from as far as Hamilton and Ancaster.  The Bears will play 3 round robin games and see if they can bring themselves into the semis and final. 

The tournament certainly got off on the wrong foot when The Bears lost one of their Centres (Aydan Downer) to a terribly called match penalty which ejected him from the tournament only after one period of play in the first game. 

The rest of team, and coaching staff were shocked at the call but had to rally the team and get them focused back on playing their game.  The Bears were unfortunately matched up against 3 extremely large and fast skating teams, two of which were from AAA and AA centres.  The Bears fought their hardest and did an incredible job at keeping up with these teams, but became extremely frustrated  and eventually ran out of gas.  WAY TO GO BEARS for your tenacity and efforts to stay strong and compete!

The Bears are ready for their 2nd Tournament of the Season.  There are a total of 8 teams playing in The Walt McKechnie Fall Classic hosted by The Highland Storm and to be played in Wilberforce.  The Bears are slotted in the ORR Division consisting of The Hespeler Shamrocks, Port Carling Thunder and Centre Hastings Grizzlies.  The Highland Storm, Georgina Blaze, Collingwood Blackhawks and CYO Durham Crusaders make up the GRETZKY Division.  Round robin games are all inter division with Championship games played against opposing division team who finish in the same place.

The Bears are grouped with Newmarket and Caledonia in Division C.  Bradford, Woolwich and Uxbridge form Division B and Midland, Orillia, Innisfil and Collingwood make up Division A. 

We are scheduled to play Newmarket at 12:30 on Friday December 7 and Caledonia at 5:50pm later on that evening.  Next up on Saturday December 8, the Bears face Bradford at 4:10pm. 

Looks like we are facing some good competition in the round robin!  Bring it on... GO BEARS!
