Scotiabank Peewee HL Giant Tiger Grizzlies 1 and 1 over the weekend
The Scotiabank Peewee HL Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears faced off against fellow South Muskoka Scotiabank Peewee HL Kodiak Bears Saturday and Sunday ending the weekend with one win and one loss.
The Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears won the first game of the 2 game match on Saturday morning with a final score of 3-0. The game started off with the Grizzlies putting pressure on the Kodiaks and keeping the play in the Kodiaks end for the first half of the period with several good scoring chances. The latter part of the 1st period the Grizzlies were short handed, killing off back to back minor penalties but holding the Kodiaks to end the period gridlocked at 0-0.
The 2nd period was all Grizzlies as they took control of the play and kept it in the Kodiaks end for most of the period. With 2 minutes left, the Grizzlies found the back of the net to take the lead 1-0, goal scored by Dawson S., assisted by Brendan W.
The Grizzlies kept the pressure on in the 3rd and put two more goals on the scoreboard to finish the game up 3-0. Goals scored by Dawson S. and Ethan C., assists to Tenney D, John C, and Erin V.
Great team effort for the win, and another shut out for Grizzly net minder Cam C, making it the 4th shut out of the season - way to go Cam!
The 2nd game of the match on Sunday started off with the Grizzlies on their heels. CC Tathum Kodiaks came on strong with 2 goals in the 1st period ending the 1st with the Grizzlies down 2-0. The Grizzlies turned things around in the 2nd with some pressure in the offense and 2 quick goals mid-way through the period to tie it up 2-2. The first goal scored by Ethan C from John C & Dawson S and the 2nd goal scored by Tenney D from John C. Before the end of the period the Kodiaks came back with a goal making it 3-2 for the Kodiaks. The 3rd period was fast paced end to end hockey with scoring chances at both ends. Grizzly net minder made some awesome saves but the Kodiaks managed to get another goal near the end of the 3rd to make it 4-2 for the Kodiaks. With less than a minute left to play in the 3rd the Grizzlies pulled their goalie and with 6 skaters managed to put another one in the back of the net. Dawson S with a bullet slap shot from the point made it a one goal game, assist to Tenney D. Final score 4-3 for the CC Tathum Kodiaks.
We saw some great hockey this weekend! The kids are really playing together as a team, passing & communicating well on & off the ice, and having a lot of fun. Great team spirit! Next weekend the Grizzlies travel to Parry Sound to meet the Shamrocks for the 2nd time this season. Go Grizzlies Go!
