Rules and Regulations
1. This tournament is sanctioned by the O.M.H.A. and all O.M.H.A. Rules and Regulations apply. The OMHA minimum suspension guidelines will be strictly enforced. All suspended will be enforced according to the OMHA 2022/2023 Manual of Operations.
2. A copy of an OMHA team roster must be presented to tournament officials prior to the first game. Changes to the roster must be made in writing. No roster changes will be permitted after the first game has been played.
3. All managers must report to the registration table in the arena of each game, at least 45 minutes prior to their game and fill out the IPAD game sheet. Please ensure all bench staff sign the game sheet as well. The signed IPAD (which must stay at the registration table) must be completed 10 minutes prior to the start time of any game.
4. Team rosters are limited to 19 players, including goalies.
5. All teams MUST be available to play at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of any game.
6. All teams should bring two (2) sets of jerseys.The "Home Team" will be designated on the schedule. Home teams must wear light coloured jerseys where possible. In the event of a conflict, the home team must change their jerseys. Visiting teams will advise the opposing team and tournament official at the registration table of any conflict 30 minutes prior to game time.
7. Teams are guaranteed four (4) games in a Round Robin format with a possible 5th in the final. The home team of the final will be determined by which team had the better record after round robin play; see Rule 13, below.
8. Teams must play all their scheduled tournament games.
9. There will be a 3-minute warm-up prior to each game.
10. Round Robin Games will consist of a 10, 15, 15 stop-time periods. Finals will consist of a 10, 15, 15 stop time periods.
11. If the goal differential in any game is 5 or greater, at any time in the third period, the clock will run until the spread is reduced to 3 goals, at which point, stop time shall resume.
12. Flooding will be at the end of each game of the tournament.
13. The tournament will consist of 7 teams competing in a round robin format:
Points: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.
14. All round robin games will end at the end of regular play, even if it is a tie game.
15. The top two teams with the most points at the end of round robin play will face each other in the Championship Game. If there is a tie for either of the top two positions, then the following tie breaking format will be applied to determine the Championship competitors:
♦If a two-way tie exists, then the winner of the game between the two teams advances (Head to Head Winner). (rule does not apply if 3 or more teams are tied, or if the two teams did not face each other in the round robin)
♦If still tied or if more than 2 teams are tied, then the team with the highest resultant from goals for divided by goals against.
♦Fewest goals against; and
♦If still tied, then the team with the lowest total penalty minutes;
♦Most goals for and then if still tied, a coin toss.
16. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: If tied after regulation play in the Championship Game, there will be a five minute sudden-victory overtime period where teams will play 3 on 3 plus their goaltender. Penalized players will serve their time and the team with the power play will add a 4th player. If the penalty ends during game play each team will play with 4 on 4 until a stoppage of play, where play will resume with 3 on 3 play. If still tied, a shoot-out will be utilized to determine the winner:
SHOOT-OUT RULE:
1. Shoot-outs only apply in the Championship game.
2. Each coach will appoint three players as shooters.
3. Shooters will alternate with the home team beginning first.
4. If one team scores on its first 2 shots and the other team does not score any goals on its first 2 shots, then the third shooter is not necessary.
5. If still tied after 3 shooters, the Coaches will appoint another shooter, then it becomes a sudden-victory shoot-out.The first team to score when the other team does not, shall be the winner.
6. No shooter may repeat until all skaters have taken their turn.
7. Shooters must maintain the order of the first round if a second round is necessary.
8. All applicable sections of the CHA Penalty Shot rule shall apply during shoot-outs.
17. Teams do not change ends for Overtime or Shootouts.
18. AWARDS
Champions and Finalists of the championship game will receive awards. Each team will pick their own MVP for each game except the championship games for which you will pick the other team. MVP medals will be handed to the manager prior to each game when they fill out game sheet.
19. One Time-Out is allowed per team per game for all games played.
20. All decisions of the SMMHA Tournament Director, or in his/her absence the Tournament Convener, are final.
21. Games will be played in Gravenhurst and Bracebridge arenas.
