2016-17 Dan Bell Memorial Atom/Peewee Tournament Rules and Regulations

October 21st-23rd, 2016

1. This tournament is sanctioned by the O.M.H.A. and all O.M.H.A. Rules and Regulations apply.

2. A team official will be required to show approved OMHA team roster for all players and team officials as well as signing the contract form at the time of team registration, prior to the first scheduled game.

3. All managers must report to the tournament office in the arena of each game, at least one hour prior to their game and fill out the game sheet. Please ensure all bench staff sign the game sheet as well.

4. Team rosters will be limited to 19 players, including goalies.

5. Teams should bring two (2) sets of sweaters.

6. The "Home Team" will be designated on the tournament game schedule.

7. In case of conflicting sweater colours, the designated "Home Team" will change.

8. Teams are guaranteed three (3) games in a Round Robin format with a possible 4th or 5th in the finals.

9. Teams must play all their scheduled tournament games.

10. All teams must be prepared to take to the ice fifteen (15) minutes prior to their scheduled time.

11. Games will consist of three 10 minute stop-time periods.

12. Flooding will be at the end of each game of the tournament.

13. The Atom tournament will be two divisions of 4 teams in a preliminary round robin format, with a semi-final and championship game. The Peewee division will be three divisions of 4 teams with the top pointed team advancing from each division and one wild card. The highest point percentage team will play the wild card (4th highest point percentage) and the 2nd place team will play the third place team. The winners of these two games will move onto the championship game.

 

14. Points: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.

 

15. All round robin games will end at the end of regular play, even if it is a tie game.

 

16.  The team with the most points will be declared division winners and the team with the second highest total points will be declared runners-up. If teams are tied then the following tie breaking format will be used to determine which team will advance:

♦ If a two way tie, then the winner of the game between the two teams.

♦ If still tied then the team with the highest resultant from goals for divided by goals against.

♦ If still tied then the team with the lowest total penalty minutes, including a mercy rule adjustment.

♦ If a three way tie then the team with the highest resultant from goals for divided by goals against.

♦ If still tied, then the team with the lowest total penalty minutes.

17. The SEMI FINALS will see the winner of one division playing the runners up of the other division. The winners of these games advance to the Championship final.

18. SEMI-FINALS & CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES: If tied after regulation play there will be a five minute sudden-victory overtime period where teams will play 3 on 3 plus their goaltender. Penalized players will serve their time and the team with the power play will add a 4th player. If the penalty ends during game play each team will play with 4 on 4 until a stoppage of play, where play will resume with 3 on 3 play. If still tied, a shoot-out will be utilized to determine the winner (see shoot-out rule).

19. Champions and Finalists of the championship game will receive awards. Each team will pick their own MVP for each game except the consolation and championship games which you will pick the other team. MVP medals will be handed to the manager prior to each game when they fill out game sheet.

20. One Time-Out is allowed per team per game.

21. Any fighting penalties will result in immediate suspension, of the player(s) involved, from the tournament.

22. Mercy Rule: If there is a 5 or more goal differential between teams at any time during the third period of any round robin game, the remainder of the game shall be played as straight time even if the goal differential becomes less than 5. After the commencement of straight time, minor penalties will be 3 minutes in duration and majors will be 7 minutes. Minor penalties assessed during straight time will be adjusted to 2 minutes for tie breaker purposes and majors to 5 minutes.

23. All decisions of the SMMHA Tournament Director, or in his/her absence the Atom/Peewee Tournament Convener, are final.

24.  Games will be played in Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Baysville arenas.

SHOOT-OUT RULE:

1. Shoot-outs only apply in Semi-Final and Championship games.

2. Each coach will appoint three players as shooters.

3. Shooters will alternate with the home team beginning first.

4. If one team scores on its first 2 shots and the other team does not score any goals on its first 2 shots, then the third shooter is not necessary.

5. If still tied after 3 shooters, the Coaches will appoint another shooter, then it becomes a sudden-victory shoot-out. The first team to score when the other team does not, shall be the winner.

6. No shooter may repeat until all skaters have taken their turn.

7. Shooters must maintain the order of the first round if a second round is necessary.

8. All applicable sections of the CHA Penalty Shot rule shall apply during shoot-outs.
