Envotek - Game #16
February 11 game vs Almaguin Ice Devils

On Sunday, February 11th, Envotek faced off against the mighty 1st place Almaguin Ice Devils, this time at the site of their home practices in Gravenhurst.   This was a big challenge for the boys, as Almaguin had won 14 straight, scoring 112 goals and only giving up 12 along the way.   Envotek found out quickly in the first period how strong this team is, giving up 2 early goals.  However, the kids found another gear and pushed back, never giving up throughout the game.  Envotek appeared to have pulled within one late in the first period on a breakaway goal, but the goal was disallowed, despite it appearing to have crossed the goal line.   Through the second and third, the kids kept pressing and discovered they can skate with any team when consistent forechecking pressure is applied.  Envotek was able to score on another breakaway, with this one clearly in, to break the shutout.    The final score of 6-1 was not fully indicative of the play or the kid’s effort in this one, as they worked hard and had some great scoring chances.

This game marked the wrap up of the regular season, with playoffs now around the corner.   The coaching staff couldn’t be prouder of the boys, as they pulled together as a team throughout the year, with players of varying experience levels, and many adjusting to new positions.   Their efforts have been rewarded by clinching a spot in the A Pool for playoffs; this is quite an accomplishment!  Especially when considering the top two teams only lost twice in total all year, with Envotek being responsible for one of those defeats!  Way to go Envotek!

Player of the game went to Austin, who broke up many offensive rushes from the speedy, skilled opposing team, and transitioned the puck up well to the forwards.  Austin has been a pillar of strength on defense this year, and really earned this honour!
