Greavette South Muskoka Bears Midget AE take to Port Carling Thunder tournament this weekend
The Greavette Midget AE Bears took to the ice for their first game on Friday night in Bala .......

to face the Waterford Wildcats. The Wildcats set the fiery, physical tone right out of the gate.  The pace was fast and end to end hockey ensued.  Waterford scored first with a screened shot from the point. As the game played into the second, the Waterford goalie stood on his head to make some timely saves as the Bears drove the net. Edge of your seat hockey continued, with the Bears down 2 goals, Dowling broke away down the ice drawing a penalty shot…with great finesse Dowling put the Bears on the board to make it 2-1. The Bears charged in in the third, with numerous scoring opportunities, exciting saves between the pipes by Morgan and the Bears’ coach pulling the goalie for the extra man on in the last seconds of the game.  Unfortunately, the clock cut the Bears short with a 2-1 loss.

Game 2 had the Bears pitted against the Ingersoll Express. The first 2 ½ minutes of the game saw both teams go up on the board, with Dowling deking end to end for the Bears.  Well-matched end to end play to finish the second period.  The third period saw Ingersoll get the Bears turned around and took advantage of 2 quick goals.  The Bears drove hard, crashing the Ingersoll net, but were not able to put any more goals up on the board, to end the game 3-1 for Ingersoll.

Game 3 had the Bears facing off against the Woodville Hurricanes.  Woodville took a strong hold of the game with 2 quick goals. The Bears managed to cut that in half with a great give and go by Dikeos to Hoffman, but was quickly matched by Woodville.  The second period saw the Bears dominating the play, with great pressure and rushes up the ice, but the Woodville net minder shut the Bears out. The third period had the Bears turn up the heat with solid scoring opportunities, defence and net minding shutting out Woodville.  Game final 4-1 for Woodville.

Game 4 had the Bears playing against the Temiskaming Puckhounds.  The Bears roared out to be first on the board with a rocket from the point by Cameron, quickly followed by another put up by Ruddell and fired top shelf by Dikeos to give the Bears a 2-0 lead to end the first. Solid and nimble defense shut down the Puckhounds’ offense through to the end of the second.  The Bears put another goal up in the second, when Quemby jumped into the play from a line change to find Hoffman across the ice, who buried it deep, putting Bears up 3-0 at the end of the second.  The 3rd period saw the game board lit up with penalties on both sides, as the Puckhounds dug deep to stay in the game and were rewarded ½ way through the 3rd to get their first on the board and 30 seconds later buried the puck to make a game of it at 3-2.  The Bears pulled together as a team to find the win 3-2.
