Muskoka Parry Sound Local League Championships - Sundridge - Mar 4th and 5th/17
Recaps by Terry Dyni:

Game One –

South Muskoka Blakewood Construction (Home) vs South Muskoka Wes Finch (Visitor)
Final Score Blakewood        6  (1-0)
Wes Finch        0  (0-1)

Day One of the Novice Muskoka Parry Sound Local League Playdowns on March 4th at the Sundridge Strong Joly Arena featured a pair of familiar foes facing off against each other.    In four previous encounters this season, South Muskoka’s Blakewood Construction held a slight edge against Wes Finch with two wins and a tie.

Blakewood lost only their first match back in October 2016, and outscored Wes Finch 27-16 throughout the regular season.   There was just a single goal in the opening frame with both sides playing tight playoff hockey.   Mason W., Blakewood’s leading scorer, broke the scoreless tie with Grayden Z. drawing the assist.   Low and behold, that turned out to be the winning goal as Corbin H. turned aside every Wes Finch scoring opportunity en route to a 6-nothing shutout victory.   Mason finished the game with 4 goals and an assist, while Grayden Z. and Helmut A. recorded the other goals.    Paige O. registered a pair of assists while Beckett R. and Wyatt G., drew single helpers.

Game Two –

Huntsville HRC (Hutcheson, Reynolds and Caswell) (Home) vs.
South Muskoka Blakewood Construction (Visitor)

Final Score Blakewood      6  (2-0)
HRC       4  (1-1)

Three hours after their opening tilt, Blakewood Construction was back on the ice against Huntsville HRC.   In the regular season, these teams split the two games they played, with each side winning in the other teams barn.     Blakewood built a 2-1 lead through the opening period of the playoff match with a familiar duo accounting for the goals, Grayden Z. and Mason W.     Every time Blakewood looked like they might run away with it though, HRC kept pace.    Up 5-2 after two periods of play, HRC tallied twice in the final frame but Blakewood added one more to seal the victory by a score of 6-4.    Grayden Z. led the offence with 4 goals, with Chase R. adding a single.    Solid defence from Wyatt G. and Joshua D was a critical component of the team’s success along great efforts from Ben W., Daichi M., Lincoln W., and Colton B.

Game Three –

South Muskoka Blakewood Construction (Home)                                                 vs.
Huntsville Robinson’s YIG (Visitor)

Final Score Blakewood        6  (3-0)
HRC                  3  (1-2)

It was an early wake-up call for Blakewood Construction on day two of the competition.  Despite matching the host Almaguin Ice Devils with a perfect two and oh record on Saturday, Blakewood fell just short on goal differential, which afforded us the refreshing experience of enjoying the cool, crisp morning air of a winter cold snap, with an 8 am start against Huntsville Robinson’s YIG (Your Independent Grocer).   An added bonus, traffic on Highway 11 was relatively light on the way in.    Our team came out on top; which translated into the opportunity to be the only team to place twice today playing in the championship game at 1:00 p.m. against the Almaguin Ice Devils......to be continued in Part 2…..
