Middaugh Masonry @ Blakewood Construction - Jan. 21/17
On January 21st our
team took to the ice to play Middaugh Masonry for our third time this season
missing two crucial players, Paige O. and Daichi Mc. In the first period, both teams defended
their nets well and despite some good shots from either side, neither team was
able to penetrate the net, so the first period ended with no team posting a
score. Corbin H., our goalie, made some
great saves in the first period. Wyatt
G. also made a great save on an incoming shot.
Chase R. made a good defensive play, intercepting the puck out from
right in front of the net and sending it down to their end.
Mason W. and Grayden Z. made great shots on net but nothing seemed to get through. Near the end of the first period, Lincoln W. made a crucial intercept and sent the puck back down to their end where Joshua D. picked it up and made a good shot on net but the score remained 0 - 0.
The second period saw similar great hockey from both sides. While each team had some good shots on net, the goalies, in particular our own Corbin H., were solid in net. In particular, Mason W. flicked it up to the net but it just went over the top. Colton B. and Chase R. played well offensively and made some great use of the boards. Ben W. also made some great shots on net and Wyatt G. had a solid breakaway. Beckett R. got into a scrum and sent the puck back to their end. Once again, Corbin H. made a great dive to save a goal from going in. During this period, neither side, was giving an inch and it looked like the second period was also going to end, scoreless, until, at 59 seconds left on the clock, Mason W. was able to slice it in, assisted by Helmut A. to register the first goal of the game, ending the second period 1-0.
The third period was the most intense. Wyatt G. and Joshua D. played well defensively. Mason W. put pressure on their goalie, trying to knock in shot after shot. Helmut A. made a great steal to keep it in our end and Beckett R. was determined to keep the puck away from Middaugh. Lincoln W. made some great consecutive shots on net which were “oh so close” to going in. Likewise, Chase R. tried to hammer it in. Like the first two periods, neither team was able to penetrate the net, particularly since our goalie, Corbin H. made an absolutely spectacular save of the game with 4 minutes left in the game. The third period was winding down ever so slowly, with Ben W. making a great defensive block with 1:55 left to go. This period was seemingly taking forever! Finally, the clock wound down and when it was over; Blakewood and Corbin H. recorded their first shut out of the season; taking the win 1-0 over Middaugh Masonry.
It was a great game to watch and very exciting hockey! Congratulations everyone for the good team effort and for playing hard and having fun.
