Exciting Playoff Series Continues!
The Progressive Waste Solutions Major Midget Bears entered the weekend with a 3-1 lead in series points.
The 3rd game in the series was Saturday night at 9 pm in Huntsville. It was a huge lift to the players to know that so many South Muskoka fans showed up to cheer them on at such a late hour in the 'away' rink. Unfortunately the Bears started slowly. They were down 2-0 in the second period. The team has shown remarkable resilience however and clawed their way back into the match so that by the time the 3rd ended, it was tied 2-2! For the 3rd time in 3 games overtime was required. What a series!
The result was not what we hoped for and Huntsville scored with under 5 minutes remaining. Their win evened the series at 3 points each.
Sunday evening the game moved to the Bracebridge Memorial Arena. In a first-to-six point series, every game is important but this one was huge by any standard. These two teams are so evenly matched a good or bad bounce could decide everything. Fortunately for the Bears, they got a few good bounces but it has to be said that these only go your way if you earn them. They did. Goaltending was superb, players stepped up who don't always score and others kept their heads when the opposition lost their's. It was a solid performance on all levels and the kind of discipline and effort you expect in the playoffs!
The game ended in regulation for the first time this series with the Bears victorious 3-1. They now have a 5-3 lead in the first-to-6 point series. It was a great win but the fact that both these teams can clearly win on any given night, we all know it's far from over. Nothing but another 'best effort' will get the result we want!
Come out next weekend and support the Bears for game five 6:10 pm Saturday at the Canada Summit Centre. If necessary game six will be 7 pm Sunday in Bracebridge so if necessary set your PVR's to record the Super Bowl and come watch some hockey!
