Bears complete a busy weekend.
The Progressive Waste Solutions Major Midgets played 3 games this past weekend.

They began this difficult schedule of games on Friday night with a game VS the Muskoka Rock.  The Bears handled the usually tough Muskoka Rock team 7-3.

Next on the schedule was the Highland Storm. The Bears were without another player from our regular line-up due to an injury in the Friday night game, bringing to 3 the total on our 'injury reserved' list, so the team needed to come up with a good effort in this one. It was indeed a GREAT effort as the Bears completely dominated possession and peppered the Haliburton goalie.  Eventually the score was 3-0 for the bears entering the 3rd.  The Bears backed off the attack in the 3rd however, allowing the Storm to come back and make it a 3-2 final.

Finally, Sunday was the 3rd and final game of the weekend against a very strong Huntsville Otter squad.  It was also an away game for the Bears on the somewhat unfamiliar large ice surface of the Summit Centre.  The Bears brought a great effort in this one, scoring first.  The Otters tied it up 1-1 and it remained this way to the end of the second period.  It should be noted that the Bears not only held their own, but carried the play for most of this game.  Were it not for very good Huntsville goaltending, the score would have been in the Bears favour.  In the 3rd it appeared the Bears had stretched their weekend full of hockey to one period too many.  They sagged and the Otters took advantage. The old coaching saying that "tiredness is just a state of mind" didn't seem to play out in this one as the concentration that was evident for the 1st 2 periods vanished and so did any chance of winning this one.  The final score was 1-4 in favour of the Otters.

All in all, it was a good weekend of hockey.  A lot of character was shown in the face of a depleted line-up.  4 of a possible 6 points were gained VS local rivals.  In the game against Huntsville, there is the knowledge that if we don't lose our focus and play 3 full periods, they can be beaten also.
