Minden for the Regional Silver Stick Qualifier Tournament.
This weekend the Hammond Transport PeeWee AE Bears were in Minden for the Regional Silver Stick Qualifier Tournament.
The Bears started the tournament with a big test, facing the Durham Crusaders who entered the game with a 19-1 record. Porter K. started in net and kept the game close through out. Porter was able to hold the very strong Crusaders team to just 2 even strength goals in the game but the Bears were not able to beat the Crusaders goalie and started the tournament out with a lose.
Game two was against the Napanee Stars with Cam C. in goal for the Bears. The Bears started the scoring midway through the first period with Jordan K. opening the scoring, beating the Stars goalie five hole with assists from Noah H. and Scott S. Noah H. scored to put the Bears up 2-0 just before the end of the first period. The Stars were able to score in the second to pull within one going into the third period. The Bears held a 2-1 lead late in the third based in large part by Cam C.’s stellar performance in net. Unfortunately the Stars were able to sneak an equalizer in late in the third to finish the game in a 2-2 tie.
In the third game of the day, the Bears faced the Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds. Porter K. was backed between the pipes and facing 50 shots, made numerous spectacular saves through the game. Despite the strong performance from Porter, the speedy Puckhounds came away with the win preventing the Bears from moving onto to the semi-finals.
