Scotiabank Peewee HL Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears are Tournament Champs for the Jamboree
Scotiabank Peewee HL Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears win 3 games straight to take the championship title of the Peewee Division for the South Muskoka HL Jamboree Tournament.
The Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears faced off against the Huntsville Sarjeant Fuels team for the 1st game of the tourney. The Bears played a solid, tight game with a goal in each period, only allowing one goal against to take the win , final score 3-1. Goals scored by Tenney D, Dawson S. and Ethan T, assists to Ethan C, Erin V., and John C.
Game 2 of the tourney the Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears met Muskoka Rock. The Bears got on the scoreboard within the first minute of play with an unassisted goal by Dawson S. There was no looking back, another goal for the Bears within minutes scored by Tenney D, assisted by Jacob W. and Garrett V. made it a 2-0 game. The Bears stayed in control of the game with offensive pressure and solid defense. Another goal early in the 2nd period was scored by Owen M. assisted by Ethan G. to make it a 3-0 game for the Bears. No goals at either end in the 3rd with some fast end to end hockey as Muskoka Rock tried to get on the scoreboard. Some amazing saves and an awesome glove catch on a Muskoka Rock breakaway gave the Bears netminder Cam C. his first shut out of the tourney. Final score 3-0 for the Bears to put them in 1st place at the end of the regular tournament round, the only team to win both games, which put them into to the finals for the Championship game.
For the Championship game on Sunday afternoon, the Giant Tiger Grizzly Bears again faced off against Huntsville Sarjeant Fuels. With the record for these 2 teams now 1 and 1, this game was fast paced with determined players on both sides. It was the Bears that got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal by Dawson S. near the end of the 1st period. The Bears took control of the game in the 2nd period with 4 more goals to end the 2nd up 5-0. Goals scored by John C., Ethan C., Tenney D., and Dawson S, assists to Ethan T., Dawson S., and Owen M. Huntsville Sarjeant Fuels was not letting up in the 3rd period trying to get on the scoreboard but the solid Bears defense and some great backchecking by the offense held them off. Another goal in the 3rd for the Bears by Dawson S. giving Dawson S a hat trick and making it a 6-0 game! Bears netminder Cam C stood tall all game to come away with another shut out - the 2nd in the tourney! Final score 6-0 for the championship title .
Throughout the tourney we saw some awesome passing plays and incredible teamwork. We came out of the tourney with 12 goals for, 1 goal against, and only 2 penalty minutes. It was a great weekend of hockey, every team member should be proud of their accomplishment - Hometown Tournament Champs! Looking forward to more great hockey in the New Year - Go Bears Go!
