Zarmac Atom AE Bears Battled Hard at Home on the Weekend
The Zarmac Atom AE Bears started the weekend off on Saturday against the league leading Huntsville Otters.

The 1st period started off fast with scoring chances at both ends and plenty of pressure, ending the period 0-0. It was well into the 2nd when the Otters started off the scoring to make it a 1-0 game but the Bears answered with a goal to tie it up. The forward line Johnson, Cats, and Baker peppered the goalie with shots & it was Ethan Cats that finally got one by the Otters netminder, assists to Kaston Johnson and Ashlin Baker. In the 3rd, the Otters got 2 quick goals to pull ahead 3-1, but the Bears battled back and demonstrated their teamwork skills with a beautiful goal; Ashlin Baker parked in front of the Otters net jammed one in with a clean pass from Evan Black making it a 3-2 game.

Great pressure, a fast-paced game and many scoring chances for both sides; it was the superior goaltending of Cameron Clement for the Bears as well as the Otters netminder that kept this a low scoring game. Final score 4-2 for the Otters.

The Zarmac Atom AE Bears battled the Haliburton Highland Storm on Sunday at home. The 1st period the Storm had the Bears trailing by 2 goals. The Bears had some good scoring chances, including a breakaway for John Cousineau who was stopped on the attempted backhand deke.

The Bears came on strong in the 2nd peppering the Storm goalie with shot after shot but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Storm pulled ahead 3-0 to end the 2nd.

The battle continued throughout the 3rd with scrambles at the net, puck battles on the boards, a called back goal, center ice collisions, blocked shots and some great penalty killing by the Bears defense, Mocon, Brasi, Black, and Bennett. Excellent pressure from the Johnson, Cats, and Baker line with some great scoring chances and goal post shots by Ashlin Baker and Ethan Cats. Evan Black created a great scoring chance with a powerful rush from our blue line past the Storm defense. It was a hard fought battle by the entire team, final score 3-0 for the Storm.
