NORSTAR NOVICE BEARS BLAST OUT OF THE GATE!
The Norstar Novice Bears started their regular season off on a very high note this afternoon when they travelled onto Midland Centennials home turf.  The Bears were expecting a hard and historically tough Novice Midland team to commence their season.

The Bears expected a tough go of it right off the first face off, but once the puck dropped the adrenaline flowed freely for the Bears.

Reece Thompson opened up the scoring with two thirds through the 1st with assists from wing man Jacob Budney and Defense TyMac.  Aydan Downer took a cross checking penalty and after time served jumped on the ice with a feisty push through two Midland defense men to go top shelf and make it a 2-0 game, with a couple of minutes left in the first period.  Midland scored one with a loose puck in front of the net, and then another on a delayed penalty.  With 48 seconds left Nathan Scott came flying down the ice with a beauty to make the score 3-2.

The second period provided no additional scoring but some gritty, in the corners, fast paced skating and toe to toe action from both teams.  Bears goaltender Brody Dann was quick and nimble and fought hard to keep Centennials pucks out of his net.

The third period opened up a plethora of Bears goals starting out with Graydon Guthrie with assists from Scott and Defense Euan Greenfield.  Thompson picked up a defensive pass again from D man Euan Greenfield and flicked a great one in past Midland.  The Bears were up 5-2 and looking fine.  With a couple of minutes to go the Bears kept pressing and Brock Fry moved up the ice with a pass to Aydan Downer.  Downer sandwiched between two Midland players managed to get a shot off and get it 5 hole past the Midland net keeper.  We were now up 6-2 with seconds left.  Adding a final check mark to the tally Guthrie picked up a pass from TyMac and broke loose for a gorgeous ringer to conclude the game at 7-2.

HUGE HUGE DEFENSE from veterans Ewan Davis and Sebastian Stephen who broke up Midland possessions end to end.  Gritty play in the corners by Nolan Quesnelle also kept the Bears in control of the puck.  Quick moves by Kale Rogers and Mitchell Hammond moved the plays end to end and kept the Cents skating hard.

A strong start to the regular season and a 150% effort by each and every single member of the NorStar Novice Bears.  This team worked as a team every single second of this game and it was amazing to witness.
