This
past February 21st to 23rd, Huntsville minor hockey held
their annual Otterfest. Your hometown
Giant Tiger Flames entered the tournament looking to exact revenge after bowing
out in the semi-finals of the SMMHA Jamboree.
The result, ............
a wonderful display of teamwork and sportsmanship rewarded with the championship!!
Game one saw them pitted against Huntsville’s Peerless Security. The Flames came out flying! Great passing, shooting and puck control was rewarded with a 5 – 3 win. Dustin Labelle and Ben Rinaldo had two goals each while Lexi Kokkas had a goal and two assists and Connor Marling had three assists.
The Flames’ second game saw them take on Huntsville’s Little Caesars. Tenacity, back checking and a great team effort helped the Flames burn Little Caesars 3 – 1, providing them a bye to the finals. Sam Scholl opened the scoring while Dustin Labelle placed the final dagger, scoring twice.
The finals had GT Flames meet Peerless Security once again. This contest was a nail biting, defensive battle which saw Flames goalie Ty Robinson, stand on his head. Brilliant save after brilliant save, Ty kept his team in the game until they breached security in the second period with a blast from the point by Will Golden. And that’s all they needed, coming out with a 1 – 0 win and being crowned champions!!!
We’d like to thank our fans for your great support, Huntsville Minor Hockey for hosting the tournament and congratulations to the Giant Tiger Flames for representing SMMHA with class.
